This is an anthology of tales told by and about inanimate objects.
What's more inanimate than a rock?
When he was teaching in Armenia, Clif visited a Roman era temple and learned it's history of being a pagan temple, Christian temple, destroyed by earthquake, rebuilt, plundered and finally restored as a historic building.
For an inanimate rock, the capstone had a pretty interesting existence.
That was the basis for this tale.
Tuff was Clif and Carol's first professional sale. Clif wrote the first two drafts -- which were both rejected -- and Carol reworked the story, adding philosophy and bringing the rock to the understanding that even it is mortal.
